Coco
Coco, also known as coco coir, is a medium, like peat moss, in which you can grow your
c*****s. It is a soil amendment and has excellent results in adding structure, improving acidity, holding water, and boosting microbial life. This is an alternative cultivation style. It is ideal for beginners or even those very practiced in soil substrates or hydroponics as it is easy to learn.
Coco coir is composed of processed, recycled husks made of coconuts; it is the natural fibre and often from coconuts grown in Sri Lanka or India. It was once thought of as waste material but now constitutes an excellent growing medium to be used indoors or outdoors in marijuana cultivation. The pH is usually anywhere from 6.5-7, and it comes in large sacks like soil is sold or commonly in compressed bricks that are tightly packed with coco.
Blend the coco into your own homemade super soil to buffer the substrate. This will help your soil to drain well and to oxygenate the roots and does so much more than peat-based mediums. Many coco coir growers prefer to add about 30% perlite to their mixes for the most optimal results; some also try mixing in clay pebbles at a similar ratio. Both have great results; there are conveniently premixed blends of clay pebbles and coco noir available for purchase.
With a brick of coco add about 4-5 litres of water and leave it alone for about 30 minutes to soak it all in. Add the perlite mix by hand in a bucket. Coco is more forgiving than other hydroponic mediums; however, it is not as effective a buffer as the soil will be. Be sure to water consistently when the medium gets dry and light, that is your cue to add moisture.
